Restoration work at the Five Heads

Stichting Maastricht Vestingstad is an organization dedicated to the preservation, promotion and vibrancy of Maastricht's historical heritage as a fortified city.
It organizes various activities such as tours, events and educational programs to share the city's rich history with both residents and visitors.
The foundation and its volunteers play a crucial role in preserving the fortified city of Maastricht as a cultural and historical heritage.

The Helpoort, erected in the 13th century, is considered the oldest surviving city gate in the Netherlands and represents a valuable piece of heritage in Maastricht. Today, the Helpoort houses the Maastricht Fortress Museum, where visitors can take a fascinating journey through time and learn more about the city's rich military history. The museum offers a wealth of information, exhibits and artifacts that tell the stories of the fortifications, the sieges the city endured and the daily lives of the soldiers and civilians who were intertwined in it.
